Internal Communication That Grows with You: How to Nurture it at All Stages.

We have observed from experience that, no matter the size or purpose of a company, it’s not always clear to CEOs, leaders, or employees what internal communication (IC) really means. And that's OK! We can't be experts in everything. Lucky for you, that’s exactly what we love to focus on at Caring Comms: Not the quick wins or photo ops (like 'Check out our Taco Tuesday in the canteen!') but rather - the deeper work. The kind that takes time. That can sometimes feel uncomfortable (hello, workplace vulnerability). The kind that truly does your company justice.

We want to ensure that no matter how your organisation grows, you still have a strong foundation for how to share key messages, stay true to your values and culture, and bring people together across teams and backgrounds. That's more fun than adding on more chaos and unnecessary misunderstandings to the mix...

In the short guide below, we’ve simply tried to give you a picture of what you might be facing and how we could come in to help. We always aim to work with the time and resources you have available.

There’s no one-size-fits-all— and that’s where the magic lies ✨.

🧩 2-10 employees? You’re building something from scratch.

We can help you shape your internal story and set the tone for what’s to come. Together, we can define/refine your values, and what they look like in the day-to-day. How can your employees understand them, and live up to them in a practical way? They most likely have several roles to play, long hours, and more important things to deliver so let's make it easier for them. Plus, they are likely to be your ambassadors outside of the office, too.

We’ll craft your tone of voice, key messages, and a common understanding of "who shares what, when, where and why". Both internally, but also on your socials with employer branding in mind. You’ll come across as professional and grounded, even with a small team or tight resources. Future hires will notice you stand out from other start-ups/ small businesses, by being a little more organised while navigating a busy environment.

🛒 We can craft a one-off package of services which will save you time, support your growth, and help you bring on new people on board with clarity and confidence. We can either do the work for you, or guide you so you're part of the process, and you can feel more empowered to pick things up on your own - purchasing a stamp card can be a nice way to do that for instance, of define a few specific workshops.

🧰 10-50 employees? Things are picking up.

You’re growing, roles have to become more defined, and internal comms deserves the same love and attention, even if you don't have a team of 10 comms experts. It's the perfect time to be formalising what’s missing, tidying up what’s there, and making sure people know where to find & share the right information.

Based on what we can do for the 2-10 employees category above, together we will define smart ways to improve how you share knowledge, strengthen your culture, and tap into hidden talents within your people. This way, internal comms stays strong, ahead of future growth, and you can prevent a lot of the usual miscommunication and confusion that often show up, in times of rapid growth.

🛒 You can opt for a Small Bite Bundle, and purchase a stamp card for "on-the-go" sparring sessions for instance. It's a great, flexible approach, where we can adapt to your rythm, needs, and resources. We help you focus on things now, so you save time later.

📣 50–200 employees? You definitely cannot ignore the need for IC.

Internal comms happens whether you’re intentional about it or not. People talk, silences can be a source of anxiety, documents/ information are getting harder to find - creating unfortunate distrust - plus, chances are a good bunch of your colleagues are in other countries. You might need a mix of strategic and hands-on help to ensure your culture feels the same everywhere, leaders are aligned, and everyone can communicate with each other smoothly (it's time to define what is "need to know" VS "nice to share"...) .

Maybe you do have a communications team—but no clear IC ownership. OR - it might even look like you do have someone responsible for framing IC a little better, but it's on top of an already full plate like: an Executive Assistant to the CEO, a Head of HR, Marketing or Operations etc., or the one colleague who volunteered two years ago to dabble with an intranet... It's necessary to work out a proper structure (Yes, the big S-word - eek), so as to bring fun back in the mix, and give people more time to focus on what matters to their role, and benefit the collective success.

🛒 We can start with a Small Bites audit, then add hours for implementation: writing internal content, aligning IT/HR/Comms collaboration, or accompanying people leaders. With more colleagues in the house, clarity and alignment are key—and the right internal comms can boost trust, engagement, and motivation.

👥 200+ employees? So many challenges and opportunities!

Time to focus on simpler and practical solutions to help reduce the information overload, change fatigue and AI headache many employees might feel. You could be at a stage where you need to up your internal channels game: revamp or create a SharePoint intranet? How to make space for informal, or more dynamic interactions online? How can you bring structure while allowing for personalised ways to consume information? Do you have a framework that can expand alongside your organisational growth, without reinventing the wheel nor changing tools every other year?

With more people in-house and the occasional changes to the organisational chart, it's time to change your mindset, and be more proactive than reactive: let's ensure you have a proper system in place that helps you revisit what is there, keep content updated regularly, identify local point of contacts to help bring information forward, faster, and cater for the kind of content being shared on your platforms. Time for a state-of-the-art Internal Communication Function, defined, loved and respected, that brings value and says no to the non-sense!

🛒 Sky is the limit! Coaching & Sparring Sessions, Assessment of your Internal Comms framework, Specific Project Work, you name it. Let's discuss your specific challenges, and what kind of collaboration is right for you.

You don’t always need to have everything figured out, or opt for a full-time hire to make progress. You just need the right support at the right moment, and take it one bite at a time.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. Feel free to share your thoughts on this with us, this is just one tiny take on IC, within a vast ocean of opinions on the matter 😉.
